WOMEN HAVE A NEW ST. THOMAS BUSINESS RESOURCE

The Women's Business Center on St. Thomas is open for — well, business. It's located at 9602 Estate Thomas, next to the Bureau of Internal Revenue building near Mandela Circle.
The center has been established through a matching fund grant awarded by the U.S. Small Business Administration in partnership with the St. Croix Foundation. It will offer the same services that are available at a similar center set up earlier on St. Croix — training, counseling, mentoring and networking for women interested in developing and expanding their own businesses.
The demand for the services the center is providing is clear, WBC director Margaret Dean said.
Despite the rainy weather, nearly a hundred people took part in the center's day-long orientation program held Tuesday. They represented a broad spectrum, Dean said, from those looking into options to get off the welfare rolls to those ready to launch new enterprises and in need of employees. Many were ready and able to become mentors to others, she said.
