The Virgin Islands National Guard (VING) assisted with distributing the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farmers to Families Food Boxes at the Lionel Roberts Stadium on St. Thomas on Aug. 14.
USDA purchased agricultural products under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to support families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program supplied the food boxes of fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products and meat products to the community.
Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands (CCVI) leads the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program in the St. Thomas-St. John District. Hundreds of community members gathered for the distribution of food items. Members of VING, through the V.I. Department of Human Services, assisted with the distribution of the food boxes and maintained crowd control measures, according to the CDC guidelines.
“Under the leadership and direction of Gen. Kodjo Knox-Limbacker, Task Force Bravo answered the call to assist CCVI,” said Capt. Jahmel Leonard, task force bravo commander. “Soldiers continue to remain ready, relevant and responsive during the COVID-19 pandemic on several fronts to include airport screening, public service announcements, patient transportation and commodity distribution. We will continue to serve our community and the nation when called upon.”
