CYBER PAPER LAUNCHED

Friay, Jan. 15, marked the official launch of St. Thomas Source, the territory's first on-line newspaper.
St. Thomas Source will offer news, commentary, resource data and a host of other information to island residents, former residents, property owners and would-be visitors, as well as people around the world who have an interest in St. Thomas goings-on.

REGISTRATION FOR CONTINUING ED

Registration for adult continuing education classes began at 6:30 p.m. on Thurs., Jan 14 and will continue through Jan. 28 at Charlotte Amalie High School.

In what his successor called a 'midnight raid on the treasury," former Gov. Roy L. Schneider and 36 members of his administration took almost $383,000 in lump sum payments with them when they left office at the December.
Gov. Charles W. Tumbull termed the episode "willful and malicious" in view of the precarious fiscal condition of the territorial government. But he stopped short of using the word illegal to describe the payments, which were for unused annual leave.

Deverita Sturdivant has replaced Gwendolyn Brady as director of banking and insurance in the Lieutenant Governor's Office. Nathan Simmonds is the chief of staff.

SIMMONDS TO BE EDUCATION COMMISSIONER

Dr. Ruby Simmonds will be appointed Education commissioner, a source close to the administration confirmed Friday. "She's been spoken to, she's accepted and she's making her move to leave UVI," the person said.
