Open forum: How to Discourage Tourism

Rainbow Beach on St. Croix (file photo)

I’m sitting here at 2:15 a.m. in my expensive hotel room, Monday morning, along with my wife and family, unable to sleep because of a ridiculously loud concert being held at the Frederiksted Pier and promoted by the USVI Department of Tourism.  If the USVI Department of Tourism was searching for the perfect way to discourage tourism, then the music festival they sponsored was an unqualified success.

We are canceling our tours tomorrow, just so we can get some sleep.  The dominating memory of our vacation to St. Croix will not be the beautiful beaches and clear waters, but of a night spent in our rooms, trying to escape the ridiculous racket coming from the pier.

Thank you, USVI Department of Tourism, for ensuring that this group of tourists had a most unpleasant experience in St. Croix.
