19-Year-Old Dies in STX Shooting

A 19-year-old Crucian was shot and killed Saturday, the second homicide in the territory in the first two days of the year, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The victim was identified by next of kin as 19-year-old William Isaac of Aureo Diaz Heights.

It was the second homicide in the territory in the new year, following a fatal shooting Friday on St. John on New Year’s Day.

According to the police, at about 11:07 p.m., Jan. 2, the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital in response to a report of a gunshot victim. At the hospital, officers learned that a male gunshot victim had been transported to the hospital via private vehicle.

The driver told police that he and the victim were at Container Port Road to view illegal car races when he heard a gunshot. The driver noticed the victim was injured and needed help, and he drove him to the hospital. The victim succumbed to his injury a short time later.

Police urged anyone with information on the shooting to contact police by calling 911, the Crime Tip Line at 340-778-4950 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS).
