The V.I. Police Department is seeking an armed man who stole a pickup truck at gunpoint Saturday evening at Altona Lagoon.

According to police at about 6:19 p.m., Jan. 2, the 911 emergency call center dispatched officers to a reported carjacking at Altona Lagoon.

The victim told officers that while sitting in his Ford F-150 pickup near the Lagoon area, an armed male approached his vehicle and drawing his weapon ordered the victim out of his vehicle. The victim complied and the suspect left the area in the stolen vehicle.

Officers saw the stolen vehicle headed westbound and engaged in a pursuit to capture the suspect. The suspect led officers on a chase to the Renaissance Carambola Beach Resort, where he abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, headed north into the bushes. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect, still at-large, is described as a tall, slim male with a dark complexion. He was wearing a red shirt, black pants, and his face was covered with a scarf.

Police urged anyone who has information about the incident to call 911, the Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI at 1-800-222-8477.
