A man who had been released from prison in May 2019 and placed on supervised release was in U.S. District Court on St. Thomas, where he was found to have violated the terms of his release.
According to U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert, Rasheem Morton, 41, of Florida, was placed on supervised release in May 2019 after he completed his 32-month prison sentence for money laundering conspiracy. At Thursday’s hearing District Court Judge Robert A. Molloy found that Morton violated the terms of his supervised by testing positive for a controlled substance on five separate occasions; traveling outside of the judicial district without obtaining permission from his probation officer; and failing to report to his probation officer that law enforcement had apprehended him for speeding. After making his findings, District Judge Molloy revoked Morton’s term of supervised release and imposed a sentence of 6 months’ home detention, to be followed by an additional two-year term of supervised release.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle Payne represented the United States in today’s hearing.
