Agents of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives arrested 19-year-old figitive Nijohntea Walker, who had been named in a complaint April 30 charging him with firearm offenses, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.
Despute the outstanding wrrant, Walker had been at large until Friday, May 22.
According to the affidavit filed in this case, on April 8 a video from a home surveillance camera in the Hospital Grounds area of St. Thomas captured Walker climbing over a railing and onto a patio in view of the camera recording the video. In the video, Walker possessed a pistol which he proceeded to hide at the residence and returned later to retrieve it. The Memorial Moravian Elementary School is located within 1,000 feet of the residence where the video surveillance was recorded.
Also, Walker does not have a license to carry firearms within the territory of the Virgin Islands, Shappert’s news release said.
This case is being investigated by the ATF and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kyle Payne, Juan Albino, and Everard Potter.
