Teen Suffers Possible Self-Inflicted Firearm Injury at Festival

A 15-year old male, whose name was both released by the V.I. Police Department, was wounded from a gunshot on early Tuesday morning near the Festival Village in Frederiksted.

At approximately 3:17 a.m., VIPD officers responded to the playground area adjacent to the Festival Village after the police were told that a person had been wounded by a gunshot. Upon arrival at the Midre Cummings Park, officers found the victim with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Emergency Medical Services personnel stationed at the village were summoned to treat the injury, which the police report said might have been self-inflicted, and the victim was transported to the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for further treatment.

Detectives are investigating witness statements that this incident may be a result of a self-inflicted injury. Police urged anyone with information on the matter to call 911, the department’s Crime TipLine at 340-778-4950, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
