A Filipino national, Louis Isom Mangampat, was charged in an indictment with aggravated sexual abuse and was arraigned Thursday in federal court on St. Thomas, U.S. Attorney Gretchen Shappert announced.
According to the indictment, Mangampat sexually assaulted a woman while onboard a cruise ship bound for the Virgin Islands.
The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Virgin Islands Police Department. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Blecher.
