Effective immediately, an appointment is required to take the written test to obtain a driver’s license, the Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced Monday. The current practice of allowing test takers to walk into the testing room at any time is very disruptive and time-consuming, acting BMV Director Barbara Jackson-McIntosh said in a statement.
This new procedure would only affect the island of St Thomas since St Croix and St John currently requires an appointment, Jackson-McIntosh said. Instead of having to wait until a seat is available, test takers are guaranteed to be able to take their test at the time of their appointment. Often, test-takers show up when others have started taking the test. This is distracting because the invigilator must explain the testing procedure and review the testers documents which tend to be very distracting to others in the room,.” Jackson-McIntosh said in a statement.
