STAR Runs with EAST, VIMAS for Coastweeks Clean-up

On Saturday, Sept. 17, the St. Thomas Association of Roadrunners (STAR) assisted the Environmental Association of St. Thomas-St. John (EAST) and the UVI Virgin Islands Marine Advisory Service (VIMAS) in introducing the 2016 Coastweeks Clean-ups by conducting a 2-mile run/walk at Brewers Bay. The clean-up was very successful, and most who participated in the run also gave their efforts to the clean-up. Coastweeks activities will continue to through Oct. 1.
Although this was a fun event for both walkers and runners without prizes, STAR’s archives will record standard-setting performances for the new two-mile course. Teenager Talisse Thompson ran 15:08 to lead the women, and perennial winner Shane DeGannes took first overall in a time of 12:35. Complete results are provided below. All participants received vintage race T-shirts, which were from previous STAR events.
For information about the clean-up, contact Howard Forbes Jr. at 693-1672.
STAR’s fall calendar of races for school-age youth will start on Sept. 30 with the “Back to School is Fun” runs (½-mile, 1-mile and 1½-miles), at 3:45 p.m. at the UVI Golf Course. Then the cross-country season begins with meets on Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 also at 3:45 p.m. at the golf course. Contact Therese Hodge for details at 775-6373.
For the general public, STAR’s next event for the general public will be the 33rd Annual Founders’ Day 5K, which starts at 7 a.m. on Oct. 9 at the Fort Christian parking lot.
For any further information, contact Roy Watlington at 777-8183.
