Jason Brian Coulter was extradited to the U.S. Virgin Islands from the Orange County, Fla., Sheriff’s Department Correctional Facility, after being captured on an arrest warrant for the murder of William Bennett, who was killed almost a year ago, the V.I. Police Department announced Tuesday.
According to police, on Dec. 2, 2014, security at the Schneider Regional Medical Center performed a welfare check for the 60-year-old Bennett, who was a laboratory staff member. Arriving at Bennett’s residence in Sapphire Village, hospital security knocked on the door of the apartment and received no answer. After making several attempts, they contacted the complex’s maintenance manager, who let them into the apartment.
As hospital security personnel searched the apartment, they found a large black garbage bag that contained Bennett’s body.
The news release announcing Coulter’s extradition does not contain any information on how the VIPD came to suspect Coulter, only that he was formally arrested and charged with Bennett’s murder. Coulter was processed and remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending his advice of rights hearing.
