Three Received ‘Severe, Non-threatening’ Injuries in Sunday Boating Accident

The three people injured in Sunday’s fatal boating accident have been treated for "severe, but non-threatening" injuries at Schneider Regional Medical Center, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.

Officials have not yet released the names of the man and woman killed in the accident. Unofficial information provided to the Source reported that the man who died in the accident was Giorgio Bertrand, owner of Dinghy’s Bar and Restaurant on Honeymoon Beach on Water Island.

Monday’s news release from the VIPD provided further details on the accident.

According to the police, five adults were making their way from the Phipps Landing Dock on Water Island to the docking facility at Crown Bay Marina. The five adults were traveling in a dinghy that struck a concrete piling as they approached the marina.

Two members of the party, a man and woman, were thrown into the water once the dinghy struck the piling, and drowned. The other three individuals were injured.

The 911 emergency dispatch center received a call about the accident at 7 p.m. Sunday.
