Suspect Arrested in Christiansted Murder

Major Crime detectives arrested 21-year-old Leosardise Casanova on Tuesday and charged him with first-degree murder in connection with the Nov. 17 death of 54-year-old Javier de Jesus.

Detectives said de Jesus died from blunt force trauma to his body. According to reports at the time of the murder, the homicide took place about 4:30 a.m. on Company Street in Christiansted. Officers responding to reports of a fight in progress arrived to find the victim lying unresponsive on the ground on the northern side of the building.

At the time, detectives said the victim appeared to have injuries to his head.

Casanova, also known as Bam Bam, was arrested at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. He was placed on a bail of one million dollars and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending his Advice of Rights Hearing.
