Veteran George Augustus Ebbesen Dies at 86

George Augustus Ebbesen Veteran George Augustus Ebbesen, also known as “Ebbe,” of Old Hospital Ground died on Saturday, May 10, at Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital & Medical Center. He was 86 years old. He was born on St. Thomas and was brought to St. Croix at a very early age.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian I. “Aunt Didi” Ebbesen; aunts: Eugenie “Tantie” Ebbesen-Barbel, Mariel “Aunt Marie” Ebbesen and Maude “Aunt Maude” Ebbesen; uncle, George Leopold Ebbesen; grandchild, Maria K. Fludd; and great-grandchild, Carter M. Ebbesen.
He is survived by his loving wife, Enid M. Ebbesen; daughters: Violet L. Ebbesen and Vivian I. Ebbesen-Fludd; son, Vincent A. Ebbesen; grandchildren: Delvin A., Deondra N. and Du’Ryan A. Ebbesen; great-grandchild, Mekai D. Ebbesen; daughter-in-law, Deletta H. Ebbesen; son-in-law, Keith B. Fludd; grandaughter-in-law, Keisha Ebbesen; adopted daughter and caregiver, Rose Jacobs; adopted sons: Norman Encarnacion Sr., Roland Plaskett Jr. and Ronald Plaskett Sr.; and sisters-in-law: Ena Fletcher, Eleanor Plaskett, Delores, Rose, Louella Hansen and Senator Alicia Hansen.
He is also survived by brothers-in-law: Eric Hansen and Esdel Hansen Sr.; nieces–in –law: Myrna Wilkens, Melba, Emily, Ericka, Ena, Evette, Michelle, Maureen, Babet Hall and Elizabeth Hansen-Watley; nephews-in-law: Leroy Sr. and Ludvig Danielson, Michael Sr., Elvis Sr., Esdel Jr., Erskin and Ericksen Hansen, Terrance and Trevor Fletcher, former Senator Emmett Hansen II, Everett Hansen and Eric B. Hansen; and cousins: Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Samuel E. Ebbesen and family, Norman Encarnacion and family, Rene Encarnacion and family, Allan Chardon and family, and Graciella Caballo and family.
Other survivors include cousins: Alexandrine Petersen and family, Isidro and Randy Barbel and family, Victor Jr and Jean Ebbesen and family, Albert Johansen and family, Evelyn Cruz and family, Angel Wheatley and family, Leona Bryant and family, Grace Haagenson and family, Jeannette Johnson and family, and Patrice Harley and family; other family: Hansen, Encarnacion, Pedersen, Johansen, Bough, Frederikson, DeChabert, Schuster, Harvey, Edney, Gerard and Benjamin families; and as well as other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
A first viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 22, at James Memorial Funeral Home Inc. There will be a viewing at 10 a.m. and a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 23, at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Christiansted Cemetery.
