Suspect Arrested Twice for Pair of Thefts

Police on St. Thomas arrested Vershawn Monsanto on Friday as the suspect in the robbery in Sugar Estate, then arrested him again for a grand larceny that occurred Christmas day at a SubBase tire store.

According to the V.I. Police Department, Monsanto was arrested as the suspect for robbing a woman of her gold jewelry and cellular phone about 1 p.m. Friday on 8th Street in Sugar Estate. Monsanto and his alleged accomplice in the robbery, identified as 27-year-old Walter Hill, were taken into custody shortly after the robbery and arrested the same day.

Monsanto was also identified as the person caught on surveillance tape removing more than $500 dollars cash from the register of Royal Caribbean Tires on Dec. 25. He was arrested by detectives about 6:45 p.m. Friday.

His bail was set at $35,000.
