After receiving several calls starting at 6:45 p.m. Saturday that “some type of distress” was spotted on the north side of St. Thomas, the U.S. Coast Guard and local authorities launched a search.
“We are searching to see if there’s any type of distress, but we’ve found no signs,” Coast Guard spokesman Ricardo Castrodad said at 1:45 p.m. Sunday.
He said the Coast Guard hasn’t received any reports of an overdue aircraft or anyone missing.
Castrodad urged people with any information to call the Coast Guard at 787-289-2041.
