Copper Thieves Disrupt Phone Service in Concordia, Salt River, Gentle Winds

In the fifth incident of copper wire theft reported from Innovative Telephone’s outside plant in the last three weeks, more than 130 subscribers in Estate Concordia, Salt River Marina and Gentle Winds Condos had service disrupted Wednesday.

Dennis Chance, Innovative’s vice president of engineering and operations, said service was expected to be restored by the end of business Wednesday. “We will continue to work closely with the local authorities to prevent future theft on our outside plant cables,” Chance said.

Disruption of telecommunications is a federal offense, and Innovate is working with both local and federal authorities to apprehend the suspects. Officials encourage anyone with information concerning the theft(s) to come forward with the information.

Other incidents causing service disruptions this summer included July 22 and Aug. 1 in Estate Glynn and on July 25 in Estate Calquohoun.

For repairs, customers calling from landlines can dial 912. Wireless phones can reach the repair center at 340-714-3700. Service problems may also be reported online at www.innovativevi.net.
