Vikings Pound Their Way to Top Jackson AA Baseball with 3 Weekend Victories

The Vikings finds themselves squarely in first place in the Raphael “tight shoes” Jackson AA baseball league after three wins over the weekend at the D.C. Canegata ballpark. On Friday they pummeled the Cobras, 13-2; thumped the Yankees, 9-4, on Saturday; then beat the Cobras again on Sunday, 9-7, in a makeup game.

In the only game over the weekend not involving the Vikings, the Yankees stifled the 40 Plus Hurricanes, 15-5, on Sunday.

On Friday, the Vikings were reinforced by a compliment of players returning home from school for the summer to pound the Cobras into submission, 13-2. It was the Vikings with 13 runs on nine hits and one error, while the Cobras had two runs on five hits and committed six errors.

Malik Mitchel got the win on the hill for the Vikes and Jack Daniel got the loss. Top batter for the winners was Mark Knight who was 2 for 4. Grayson Pyland was 2 for 3 for the Vikings.

In Saturday’s contest the Vikings gave the ball to veteran ace, Raphael Jackson, who did not allow the Yankees to get a hit against him until the fifth inning. The final 9-4 score was not indicative of his performance.

It was the Vikings with nine runs on seven hits while the Yankees finished with four runs on four hits while committing five big errors. A top batter for the Vikings was Stephen Walwyn (2 for 3) and Steve Simmonds Jr. was 2 for 3 for the Yankees.

Mitchel was back on the mound pitching the Vikings to victory in the early game on Sunday as they beat the Cobras for a second time in three days, 9-7. Leonardo Castillo got the loss.

The Vikings had nine runs on nine hits and two errors, while the Cobras finished with seven runs on six hits. Top batters for the Vikings were Jahmoy Williams (3 for 4 with one RBI), Collin Williams (2 for 2 with two RBIs), Darnell Williams (2 for 4 with two RBIs) and Mark Knight (2 for 4 with one RBI). For Cobras, Castillo was 2 for 4 and Jack Daniel was 2 for 3 with one RBI.

In Sunday’s nightcap the Yankees blasted the old men of the league, the 40 Plus Hurricanes, 15-5, in seven innings. Jonathan Gonzales got the win on the hill for the Yanks, while Malcolm McGregor got the loss.

The Yankees scored 15 runs on 10 hits and two errors, while the Hurricanes had five runs on two hits and committing nine errors. Top batters for the Yankees were Javier Perez and Charles Bollings both (2 for 2 with two RBIs).
