Detectives on St. Croix said additional investigation is needed to conclusively determine the cause of deaths in the case of two long-time St. Croix calypso performers after an autopsy of the men failed to confirm a cause of death, the V.I. Police Department reported Monday.
Kassaun "K-Force" Baptiste and his adopted son, Jose "The Mighty TNL" Navarro, were found dead in Baptiste’s Estate Whim residence on Wednesday.
According to a statement from V.I. Police Commissioner Rodney Querrard, additional investigation is needed to conclusively determine the cause of deaths.
“In this particular situation, this is a combined investigation between the pathologist and the VIPD," according to the statement. "It would be unprofessional of the department to make a premature announcement or release partial information. We have more work to be done before this case is concluded."
When discovered, the two men showed signs of advanced decomposition and Major Crime detectives did confirm that the men had been dead since at least April 26.
Baptiste, 35, was crowned Captain of Travel and Style in the 2010-11 Christmas Festival Calypso contest, and 24-year-old Navarro took the same prize the following year. Navarro also won the Junior Calypsonian crown in 2004 and 2005, and Baptiste has won an array of prizes over the years.
Fellow calypso performers said the two men had no known enemies. They were known for their love of V.I. culture expressed in original songwriting.
