V.I. Digital Literacy Training Campaign Seeks Employees of All Businesses

V.I. Digital Literacy Training Campaign, in joint strategic partnership with The Virgin Islands Next Generation Network (viNGN), the V.I. Division of Personnel, the V.I. Department of Labor and the V.I. Bureau of Information Technology, will benefit the entire Virgin Islands workforce. The campaign officially kicks off on Monday, March 18.
Gov. John P. deJongh Jr. and viNGN extend a personal invitation to all employees of businesses that are a part of the Chambers of Commerce in both the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix Districts to participate in digital literacy training. This invitation also includes all non-chamber, private sector businesses within the U.S.V.I., to participate in this major territory-wide effort designed to encourage certification.
Each company’s Human Resources Department should inform its employees about the V.I. Digital Literacy Campaign, post the accompanying flyer, and encourage all employees to participate in this free initiative by simply going to www.vingn.com and click on the “Digital Literacy” training link. The employees will then be asked to create an account. If the business is a member of the Chamber of Commerce of the St. Thomas-St. John or the St. Croix District, the employees should indicate so by using the code: vichamber at the time of account creation. Once the account has been created, employees are then free to begin the actual digital literacy training. Employees will work through a series of lessons and then exams, which will determine their knowledge and level of digital literacy.
Employees who complete the courses and pass all of the exams will receive an official certificate confirming digital literacy competence and training from Potsdam University of the State University of New York. Moreover, once employees have passed the training course, which serves as a “gateway course” to the catalog of training, they are then able to go on and access over 5,500 higher level and in demand training courses including Business Management, Project Management as well as preparatory classes in Cisco Certification and Microsoft Certification, to name a few.
V.I. Digital Literacy Training extends this opportunity to all of the private sector business within the territory. Participation by a company or business will allow them to join the local V.I. government employees in one of the largest professional workforce educational initiatives in which the territory has ever engaged.
