‘Beauty and the Bra’ Fundraiser to Fight Cancer

Local ladies can win cash designing bras – not those worn to support women’s breasts, but bras to support breast cancer awareness – in the Beauty and the Bra art competition. Sponsored by the Yvonne Ashley Galiber Foundation, the fundraiser hopes to pay for diagnostic mammograms and other services for under-served women.

For the competition, bras no bigger than a 42DD can be embellished with beads, feathers, glitter, ribbons, lace, sequins and all sorts of dazzling materials. Rules say they must be done in a tasteful design.

The competition is open to the public and entries must be original bras decorated by individuals or groups. Bras must be submitted on a hanger, on which it will be displayed during judging events. Contestants must use the theme “Beauty and the Bra.”

Judging criteria includes workmanship, original and creative use of materials, and creative use of the theme. Judges reserve the right to not display any bra that does not meet standards.

Judging will be by votes of the general public at events and online at YAG’s website until Oct. 18. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m.

Supporters will be asked to vote for their favorite. Each vote will cost a $1. Total number of votes will determine the winner.

The first place prize is $100, second place is $50 and third place is $25.

Winners will be announced at the “Put UR Feet in Pink 4 the Cure” event hosted by Zeta Phi Beta-St. Croix on Oct. 20.

To maximize this fundraising opportunity, entries will be placed in a silent auction at ZPB event.

Contest entrants reserve the right to not include their entry in the auction.

Entries will not be returned unless requested and, if requested, must be picked up between Oct. 28 and Nov. 9.

Register online at yagfoundationcomm@gmail.com until 1 p.m. Sept. 19.

Registration forms will also be taken from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 19 at the Sunny Isle Medical Center’s Heart Center. There is no entry fee for the competition.

All bra art entries must be submitted between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 28, at the Heart Center at Sunny Isle.

The YAG Foundation’s mission is to save lives by increasing awareness of breast cancer through education and by providing mammograms and other services for those in need.
