DHPR Announces Applications Available for Summer Sports Camps

The V.I. Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation has announced that a total of 18 sports camps will be conducted as part of its annual Summer Sports Camps; and participants can choose skills training options in baseball, tennis, basketball, cheerleading, boxing, swimming and cultural and outdoor adventure camps, according to a press release issued Friday by the DHPR. The camps will be held from June 25 through Aug. 3.
“The camps are designed for children with a true interest in a variety of sports and recreational activities and are open to boys and girls, ages 7 thru 15. The Department is focused on ensuring a fun, safe, healthy, well-organized and well-supervised program for all children, in an engaging learning environment. The program helps participants to achieve a positive self-image and encourages creativity, a sense of learning and respect for others,” Commissioner St. Claire N. Williams said.
DHPR encourages early registration for the summer sports camp programs for they are very popular and space is limited. Applications can be obtained on St. Croix at the Department’s LBJ Gardens Main Office, D. C. Canegata Recreation Center, Renholdt Jackson Recreation Complex and Vincent Mason Sr. Pool in Frederiksted. They can be obtained on St. Thomas, at the Department’s Main Office in Sub Base, Winston Raymo Recreation Center and Alvin McBean Recreation Complex, and on St. John at the Cruz Bay Recreation Center.
For more information, contact the department’s main offices on their respective island at 774-0255 (St. Thomas), 776-6531 (St. John) or 773-0160 (St. Croix).
