VIWMA Sponsore Litter Stomp

The V.I. Waste Management Authority advises St. Croix residents that it will be sponsoring its annual “Litter Stomp” at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17. The Litter Stomp is an annual march that the authority sponsors in recognition of Earth Day. Students “stomp” from the authority’s William’s Delight Office along Queen Mary Highway eastward to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens where the annual Eco-Fair is being held, according to a press release issued Monday by VIWMA.
The “Litter Stomp” is part of the VIWMA’s environmental education outreach to students to educate them on the hazards of littering. Student march the mile-and- a-half route chanting anti-litter slogans as they commit to “stomping” out litter in their schools and community.
The Eco-Fair is sponsored annually by the authority in conjunction with the St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA). Approximately 1500 students are invited to come out to the St. George Village Botanical Gardens to celebrate Earth Day and view educational activities and programs by various agencies and businesses. Earth Day is celebrated annually on April 22.
Motorists are asked to avoid the portion of Queen Mary’s Highway from Sunshine Mall east to St. George Botanical Gardens from 9-9:30a.m. while the Litter Stomp is on the road.
