Two Arrested After K9 Cop Sniffs Out Pot

Two St. Croix men were arrested about 9:30 p.m. Thursday on drug charges after police officers stopped them because their vehicle had tinted windows and the license plate was partially obscured, the VIPD said in a press release issued Sunday.

Police arrested Ambrose Daniel, 23, and Hector M. St. Kitts, 46. They were charged with simple possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of a vehicle license plate and operating a vehicle without proof of registration.

Police said they observed the vehicle, a silver Toyota Corolla, traveling on the highway in the Estate Good Hope area. When officers approached the vehicle, they smelled the odor of marijuana. A K9 police dog was deployed and alerted officers to the presence of marijuana in the vehicle.

Police later confiscated 60 grams of marijuana found inside the vehicle.

Bail for Daniel and St. Kitts was set at $1,000 each and they were remanded to the custody of the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending further court action.
