Governor John P. deJongh Jr. has proclaimed March 21 as “World Down SyndromeAwareness Day,” to promote greater understanding and acceptance of those in our territory who live with the condition.
In observance of this designation, First Lady Cecile deJongh has partnered with First Lady Mary Pat Christie of New Jersey and 17 other state and territorial first ladies in sponsoring the 2012 Light the Way Campaignin recognition of the advances made in Down Syndrome research.
This evening at 6:45 p.m., Government House buildings on St. Thomas and St. Croix will be lit in blue as a show of solidarity and in support of Virgin Islands family members with Down Syndrome. In states and territories across the nation, houses of government will be similarly lit in blue.
