High Risk and Gang Youth Training this Week on St. Thomas

The V.I. Housing Authority and YouthBuild U.S.A.’s technical training staff will conduct training to develop strategies to address high risk and gang-involved youth this Wednesday through Friday.

Oscar Grant and Kevin Henderson, two experts from California with extensive experience and expertise in the area of high risk youth and gang involvement will lead the sessions. The two serve as technical assistance coaches for the U.S. Department of Labor YouthBuild Technical Assistance Collaborative.

Henderson has supervised many youth programs in San Diego, Ca. and in 2006 was appointed by the city’s mayor to the San Diego Commission on Gangs, a 17-member panel tasked with a more strategic effort to fight gang violence.

Grant has been recognized extensively for helping Los Angeles developed a program to manage conflict with diverse populations through peaceful mediation, according to information provided by VIHA.
