Boys and Girls Club West Performs Beach Clean Up

Boys and Girls Club West performs beach clean up
On Monday, Aug. 8, the youth campers at the Boys and Girls Club West on St. Croix in collaboration with the Learning Networks Foundation performed a beach clean up near the Frederiksted Pool. This event was conducted as a debris survey for the Project Aware Foundation, a program affiliated with the Professional Association of Dive Instructors (PADI).
The campers removed four tires, a 20-inch television set, bottles, cans, clothing and marine debris, totaling 230 pounds, all in a two-and-a-half -hour cleanup. All trash was than sorted, weighed and reported to the Project Aware Foundation online at www.projectaware.org.
The campers enjoyed the summer on various daily field trips sponsored by Learning Networks Foundation in partnership with the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center made possible from a 21st Century Learning Grant. Along with learning about St. Croix, its history and culture, they wanted to give back to the island and environment by performing the clean up as a serviced-based learning project.
