Leo Lubrin, Jr. was arrested at about 5 p.m. Saturday by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives on St. Croix and charged in Thursday’s shooting death of 19-year-old Christopher Rice of Lorraine Village Apartments.
Lubrin is a 21-year-old resident of Lorraine Village.
The shooting occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of buildings five and six in the housing community. When police arrived on the scene along with emergency medical technicians they found Rice lying on the ground, unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to his body.
He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell said Lubrin was arrested at his residence and has been charged with first-degree murder. He was held on a $1 million bail and remanded to the Golden Grove Adult Correctional Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
Howell congratulated the detectives.
“The success of this investigation boiled down to exceptional police work and relentless investigators,” the chief concluded.
