Parents Encouraged to Set Appointment for Kindergarten Assessment

The St. Thomas-St. John Office of the Insular Superintendent would like to welcome our kindergarten students and their parents to a new and exciting school year.
Incoming kindergarteners are currently participating in assessments, given at the beginning of the school year, that will help identify each student’s developmental strengths. Called the Learning Accomplishment Profile-Third Edition (LAP-3), the assessment will measure development in the following areas: gross motor, fine motor, pre-writing, cognitive, language, self-help and social/emotional, according to a press release from the Office of the Insular Superintendent.
“This assessment gives kindergarten teachers the information they need to determine the readiness of each student, and will be used to help them succeed in kindergarten,” said Jeanette Smith-Barry, St. Thomas-St. John Insular Superintendent.
Parents are encouraged to help jump start the process by calling Ms. Canton at the Curriculum Center at 775-2250, ext. 8571, and making an appointment to participate in the LAP-3 Kindergarten assessment. The summer testing session ends Aug. 19.
