Christopher Rice, 19, was shot to death Thursday night in the Lorraine Village Apartments, V.I. police reported.
It was the 29th homicide in the territory this year, the 20th on St. Croix.
According to St. Croix Police Chief Christopher Howell, shortly after 11 p.m. the 911 emergency call center received several reports of shots fired in the vicinity of buildings five and six. When officers arrived on the scene they found the young man unresponsive and lying on the ground.
He was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Detectives detained a person of interest for questioning but he was later released. The investigation into this murder continued throughout the night and into the morning.
