Suspect Charged with Hitting Man with a Bat

A 25-year-old St. John man was arrested Tuesday by the Virgin Islands Police and charged with third-degree assault for hitting a man in his upper back with a steel bat, police said.

According to the police report, the victim – a 24-year-old St. John Man – was working at his place of employment, a welding shop in Estate Contant Enighed, when Hendricks and another man pulled up in a truck. Hendricks got out of the vehicle with the bat in his hand, approached the victim from behind and hit him with the bat on his upper back. The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled in the vehicle.

The victims’ back was cut and swollen. He was transported by private vehicle to the Myra Keating Smith Community Health Center for treatment.

Hendricks was arrested at about 7:30 p.m. Tursday, police reported.

Bail for Hendricks was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
