The Virgin Islands Police Department has embarked on a project to help those less fortunate. This summer, from June 20 through Aug. 26, Police Commissioner Novelle E. Francis Jr. has challenged all employees– rank and file as well as civilians — to participate in the Tokens of Hope project on all three islands. Additionally there will be a blood donation drive in the St. Croix district, according to a press release issued Wednesday by VIPD. This “Summer Challenge” is a chance for the VIPD to give back to the community’s less fortunate.
The project is spearheaded by First Lady Cecile de Jongh and invites participants to collect travel size hygiene objects such as lotions, soaps, mouthwash and shampoos. At the end of the challenge, the items will be collected from St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John districts and presented to the First Lady for distribution to the homeless.
Additionally, our hospitals continue to be in dire need of blood donations. One pint of donated blood may save up to three lives. So, part of our summer outreach on St. Croix is “Together we can save lives – It’s all in a day’s work.” The mobile blood van will be parked near the St. Croix police substations a total of six times during July and August. All St. Croix rank and file officers and civilian employees are encouraged to give blood during these times
A special invitation to donate blood is extended to the relatives and friends of the VIPD and any other member of the community who is willing to donate to this life saving cause.
