The 2011-2012 school year will begin with the return of students on Wednesday, Aug. 31,and the 2011-2012 public school calendar has been released. The school calendar and accompanying narrative contains information regarding important public school student and personnel reporting and departure dates, marking period schedules, and legal holidays and observances for the upcoming school year, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the V.I. Department of Education.
Annually, the calendar is developed through a concerted effort between officials from the Department of Education, American Federation of Teachers (AFT), Educational Administrators’ Association (EAA), and the Office of the Governor’s Office of Collective Bargaining (OCB).
Education Commissioner Dr. La Verne Terry said, “The V.I. Department of Education’s public school calendar is one on which the days of operation are universal to all public school buildings and school-based programs within the territory of the Virgin Islands, inclusive of the beginning and ending dates of the school year and all vacation days. It has been developed to ensure that Virgin Islands students receive a quality education designed to promote their social, emotional, and academic achievement.”
Copies of the school calendar will be available on the department Web site: www.doe.vi for easy access and download.
