Woman Arrested for Filing False Robbery Report

Latosha R. Swift, 35 of Estate Fortuna, was arrested Wednesday and charged with embezzlement and other charges more than a year after falsely reporting a theft, according to the V.I. Police Department.

At 10:15 a.m. Wednesday Swift was arrested by Criminal Investigation Bureau detectives and charged with embezzlement by clerks, agents and employees; embezzlement by fiduciaries; and conspiracy.

The charges stem from robbery report Swift gave in January 2010. According to police, Swift said she was parked at a gas station when an unknown man got into the car, pushed an object into her side, told her not to scream, grabbed her bag and fled the area.

She told police the bag contained money she was depositing at the bank for her employer, Kentucky Fried Chicken.

Following an investigation into the case, detectives determined that Swift filed a false robbery claim, and she was arrested. Swift was held on a $50,000 bail and remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
