Bar Owner Foils Knife Attack, Suspect Injured

Police on St. Thomas arrested a suspect who allegedly tried to stab a Market Square business owner with a knife. The suspect ended up cutting himself when the owner blocked his attack, according to the V.I. Police Department.

According to the police, Kishawn J. Fleming, 18, of Gamble Gade, entered a bar without a shirt and harassed the customers. When the owner told him to put on a shirt, Fleming pushed him and then swung a knife, which was wrapped in a shirt, at the owner. Police say the owner blocked Fleming’s attack, causing Fleming to cut himself on his face and hand with the knife.

The suspect was transported to Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment and released. Fleming was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday and charged with third-degree assault. His bail was set at $25,000 and he was remanded to the Bureau of Corrections pending further court action.
