The Memorial Day Classic, with a purse of $5,500, highlights Sunday’s eight-race card at the Randall “Doc” James racetrack. Starship Voyage out of St. Thomas will represent Rock City against seven of St. Croix’s best in the one-mile feature.
Finish in Style (114), the best mare in the territory, will go up against the boy for the first time and those who follow V.I. horse racing know that from her recent performances she has a very good chance of finding the winner’s circle on Sunday.
Puerto Rican Emblem (119) and Star Ship Voyage (118) out of St. Thomas will most likely go off as the early favorites. Puerto Rican Emblem has been competing against better company in recent races, and Star Ship Voyage has been on a roll, winning his last three starts convincingly.
Cherokee Law (116) who has shown great promise at times, if he shows up, could also have a huge say on the outcome. Green Sand (118) as everyone knows will be out front early and should be the one to catch. If the rest of the field let him get an easy lead, watch out, he could go wire to wire.
Walk the Cat Walk (118) is a tough campaigner and will definitely be in the mix, while Eire’s run (118) and Expect Smoke (118) will be trying hard to get into the money.
