Stealers Top Coolers, Yet to Lose in 2011

The Stealers’ Enrique Soto blasts off in game one.The defending champion Seaborne Stealers extended their post-Christmas Festival unbeaten streak in the Bob Owens softball league by beating another hot team in the Coolers, 13-11, Tuesday night at the D.C. Canegata Ball Park.

The Stealers, looking in peak championship form, finished with 13 runs on 13 hits and two errors, while the Coolers finished with 11 runs on 10 hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Sam Ramos, and Dexter Desouza got the loss.

Top batters for the Stealers were Sheldon Turnbull (2 for 3 with two home runs and four RBIs) and Enrique Soto (4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Coolers, Eric Perez and Jose Berrios were both 3 for 4 with two home runs and three RBIs apiece.

Other winners on Tuesday were Anchor Dive, who outlasted the Dirty Dozen 14-13 in game two; and the Hummers, who crushed the Cartel 18-2 in the nightcap.

Anchor Dive 14, Dirty Dozen 13
Anchor Dive got a scare from last-place Dirty Dozen but was able to hold on for a one-run, nail biting, 14-13, victory. It was Anchor Dive with 14 runs on 15 hits and three errors, while the Dozen finished with 13 runs on 11 hits and three errors. Edwin Sankitts got the win on the hill for Anchor Dive, while Jason Roberts got the loss. Top batters for Anchor Dive were Danny Rodriguez (4 for 4 with six RBIs) and Danny Rosa (4 for 4 with two RBIs). For the Dirty Dozen, Steve Iganimi was 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Sean Cullinan was 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Hummers 18, Cartel 2
The Diageo Hummers made short work of the Cartel in Tuesday’s late game with a five inning, 10-run mercy-ruled, 18-2, whipping. The Hummers finished with 18 runs on 14 hits and three errors, while the Cartel scored two runs on eight hits and two errors. The winning pitcher was Jerry Vialet, and Ian Lewis got the loss. Top hitters for the winners were Mario Christian (3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs) and Sylvester Blake (2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs). For the Cartel, Daren Lewis was 1 for 2 with two RBIs, and Gregory Naar was 1 for 2 with one RBI.
