Passport Division Advises Public of Regulations

The Passport Division is advising residents of regulations that will affect those applying for passport applications, according to a release from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.
1. Anyone having an arrangement with the Division of Paternity and Child Support is reminded to check their payment status with the Paternity and Child Support Office prior to applying for a passport. Any person in arrears of $2,500 or more will be denied a passport.
2. In accordance with a mandate from the U.S. State Department, the Passport Division is unable to accept Puerto Rican birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010, as proof of U.S. citizenship. Residents holding Puerto Rican birth certificates issued before July 1, 2010, are encouraged to visit prfaa.com/birthcertificates or contact (787)767-9120 for more information.
For more information on passport applications, contact the Passport Office on St. Croix at 773-6449 or on St. Thomas at 774-4024 or online at ltg.gov.vi.
