Police Investigating Machete Attack, Gunpoint Robbery

Police on St. Croix are investigating two cases, a robbery and an assault, that occurred Monday.

The incident police consider a first-degree robbery was reported around 1 p.m. Monday near the Sunny Isle Shopping Center. A 73-year-old male victim told police two unknown men robbed him at gunpoint and stole his gold neck chain. The victim said while the suspects were fleeing the area the clean-shaven gunman attempted to shoot him but the firearm jammed.

The suspects were both of medium build and dressed in black long pants. One suspect wore a white shirt and the other wore a black shirt.

The assault occurred at around 9:28 p.m. A 35-year-old man was attacked in Estate Clifton Hill by an unknown man armed with a machete. The victim was cut on his left shoulder, right hand and was wounded on his knees and nose. He was transported to Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall and dressed in a green T-shirt and blue jeans.

Police are asking anyone having any information on ether case to contact the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 712-6077, 712-6033 or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
