The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) asks residents to refrain from disposing of, or mixing, household and other waste with the green waste that is along the roadside for collection by the Department of Public Works (DPW).
Bags of household waste and other items are being found mixed in with the downed trees, branches, and other green waste that was generated from the recent passing of Hurricane Earl. Mixing the waste is delaying the timely collection of the green waste along the roadways by the DPW, as they work to make the roads passable and clear for vehicular and foot traffic.
Household waste should be disposed of at the VIWMA bin sites or directly at the landfills. Those persons with house-to-house collection can place their household waste at the curbside on the designated days for collection. Green waste, not being collected along the roadside, is to be taken directly to the landfill for proper disposal.
