St. Croix Rescue Squad Seeks a Few Good Men and Women

St. Croix Rescue Squad is looking for men and women who have a desire to help their community and have a yearning for adventure. It is currently accepting applications for Recruit Class 2010. Applications are available at the Rescue Academy at Five Corners and are also available in the download section of the Rescue Web site at stxrescue.com. Applications will be accepted until June 30.

Becoming a member of St. Croix Rescue provides personal and professional development, enhances one’s employment opportunities, provides travel opportunities and, most importantly, gives an individual the chance to serve their community in ways few other organizations can. Being a part of St. Croix Rescue means you are saving lives.
Training courses include Emergency Medical Care (Medical First Responder or Advanced EMT), Marine Rescue and Water Safety, Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue, Emergency Management and Hazardous Material Awareness and Search and Rescue.
St. Croix Rescue is a volunteer organization; however, recruits must:
1. Be 18 years or older
2. Have a high school diploma or equivalent
3. Not have a criminal record
4. Have valid VI driver’s license
5. Have good traffic record
6. Be of good physical and mental health.
Interviews have begun and will continue through July 10. Admission to the Rescue Academy is based upon the applicant meeting the criteria previously listed and a successful interview with the Rescue Selection Committee.
Orientation will be held the third and fourth weeks of July, and training begins in August. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7-10 p.m. and two weekends a month. Graduation is scheduled for September 2010.
There is no cost for the training, but recruits do need to pay a fee of $300, which covers the costs of books, materials and a Class B uniform. Arrangements can be made to pay this fee in installments.
For more information, call St. Croix Rescue Academy at 718-6358.
