Department of Labor Plans Series of Breakfast Seminars for Employers

The V.I. Department of Labor will be hosting a series of employer education breakfast seminars. The department has created an Employer Services Unit to provide the business community with information on services, programs and tax credits available to enhance workforce development, according to a press release from Labor Commissioner Albert Bryan Jr.

The first seminar will provide employers with an overview of the Worker’s Compensation Program and the Government Insurance Fund. The presenters will be Wanda Morris, director of the Worker’s Compensation Division, and Anthony Selkridge, director of the Government Insurance Fund, Department of Finance. The following will topics will be covered: an overview of both programs; who is required to comply; what notice is required by the employer; and the claims process.
This seminar will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20, on St. Croix, at Gertrude’s Restaurant on St. Croix. It will also be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at Palms Court Harbourview Hotel on St. Thomas. A continental breakfast will be provided. Next month’s seminar topic will be “Unemployment Insurance 101.” All employers are encouraged to attend to obtain the necessary information about the program and to have their questions answered.
