Dear Source:
We have lost another pioneer in our community. We buried him last week in Jost Van Dyke, Sydney Hendricks. For over 40 years, before cruise ships were calling or the big hotels were built. He fed, entertained and enjoyed the company of thousands of our local residents and visitors making life-long friendships.
Sydney started a business on a wing and a prayer and look what he accomplished. He is known near and far and will be remembered by many. To his family who will takeover we wish you the best and we’ll see you soon.
There are only a few men who I’ve had the privilege of knowing that are in Sydney’s company. One we lost a few years back, Lowell Wheatley of Anegada Reef Hotel. The other pioneer is still with us, Foxy. Foxy started his enterprise in 1968 and hosts some of the best parties that are known around the world.
At any of these establishments, Sydney’s Peace and Love, Anegada Reef Hotel or Foxy’s, everyone is welcome, young, old, rich, poor and everyone in between, they have treated everyone with respect. What these men did for our tourism industry is immeasurable by any means. They had an idea and tried it out, improved on it and there business’ grew and prospered.
These men are legends and we should be grateful for their contributions to our beautiful Virgin Islands. Sydney, Lowell and Foxy will keep bringing people back to our islands today, tomorrow and into the future.
Thanks for all the good times!
Captain Red Bailey
