Brief: Speed Bumps Back on Airport Road

In an effort to increase pedestrian safety, the V.I. Port Authority replaced the speed bumps on the Cyril E. King airport road.

According to VIPA Executive Director Kenn Hobson, airport security has reported numerous incidents of speed limit violations on the airport road despite posted signs indicating the speed limit is 20 miles per hour.

"The airport road is heavily traversed by residents and tourists walking to and from nearby hotels and the Lindbergh Bay Beach, as well as locals who use the sidewalk to exercise and children who play at the family park near the airport," said Hobson. "VIPA hopes that the speed bumps will encourage motorists to drive cautiously and thereby increase the safety of the pedestrians in the area."

Hobson said the speed bumps will soon be marked with bright yellow paint so that motorists will be more aware of them.
