Investigation Finds Second Gun Hidden in Victim’s Car

A second gun has been found in the car of the victim of Tuesday’s homicide in Estate Constitution Hill.
Police had impounded the vehicle, a silver Suzuki Vitara, in which 31-year-old Duane Bruce of Lorraine Village Apartments, was found shot to death Tuesday.
During the initial investigation a .45 caliber handgun had been found in plain sight in the vehicle. Forensic technicians from the V.I. Police Department who were processing the vehicle for evidence discovered a second gun hidden inside. The second gun was also a .45 and was fully loaded. Two additional fully-loaded magazine clips were also found in the car.
Bruce was killed at about 8:27 p.m. Tuesday in Estate Constitution Hill on St. Croix. Police reports originally identified the victim as Wayne Bruce; the subsequent investigation has now confirmed his name was Duane Bruce.
Both firearms will undergo ballistics testing, tracing as well as other forensic testing. The VIPD Firearms Bureau has already confirmed that Bruce was not licensed to carry any firearm.
The case is still under active investigation. St. Croix Deputy Chief Christopher Howell said the investigators’ rapid response to the crime scene resulted in valuable evidence being preserved.
