Allison Peter Wins Silver at CARIFTA Games in Cayman Islands

The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation (VITFF) has announced that V.I. National Junior Team member Allison Peter raced successfully in the 100-meters in a time of 11.51, on Saturday, April 3, in the Cayman Islands, winning a silver medal in the 100-meters race at the Caribbean Field and Track Association (CARIFTA). She also is the top qualifier in the 200m. Deseree King advances in 400m hurdles. Michelle Lee Ahyne of Trinidad and Tobago took first place in 11.50 in a race that required a photo finish for determining the final results. Peter’s performance improves over her bronze medal in the event last year. V’Alonee Robinson of the Bahamas finished third in 11.57. Peter won her preliminary heat with a time of 11.52 over V’Alonee Robinson of the Bahamas who finished second in 11.59 and Danielle Williams of Jamaica who finished third in 11.79. Peter’s best time in the event is 11.47. She will run the 200m on Saturday and hopes to improve on her bronze medal finish in St. Lucia last year.

In the 200m, Peter posted the fasted qualifying time for the day with a time
of 23.41, making her a favorite in the event. Peter, who will be 18 this year,
moved up to the under 20 classification this year. Her performance at CARIFTA
makes her a favorite in the IAAF World Junior Championships to be held in
Mocton, Canada this summer.

Deseree King advanced to the finals in the 400m and finished 6th in the
finals with a time of 62.84, the first time a V.I. National Team member has
advanced to the finals in the hurdles at CARIFTA. She will run the 800m on
Monday.
David Walters finished 14th in the 1500 meters with a time 4:33.04
and will run in the 5000m. Shanel Soanes finished 7th in the 17 and under 100m.
