Governor Invites Public to Welcome V.I. Track and Field Athletes

Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr., the Virgin Islands Track & Field Federation and the V.I. Olympic Committee invite the general community to join in welcoming home international track and field star LaVerne Jones-Ferrette at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, at the Henry Rohlsen Airport. Jones-Ferrette will be returning to St. Croix for the first time since winning a silver medal on March 14 in the 60-meter sprint at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. She is the first professional athlete from the Virgin Islands to medal in an International Association of Athletics Federations world championship competition.

In addition, Governor de Jongh will host a recognition ceremony and reception for V.I. Track Athletes, with special presentations to LaVerne Jones and Allison Peter, at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 26 at Government House, St. Croix. Jones-Ferrette will depart the territory on Sunday.
