Brief: Larsen Teachers Protest For Promised Pay Raises

Tuesday morning before the beginning of class, teachers at Pearl B. Larsen Elementary on St. Croix marched back and forth with placards protesting a delay in promised pay raises, according to St. Croix Federation of Teachers President Tyrone Molyneux.
"About 75 percent of the teachers showed up before school started to protest the fact they have not received pay increases that were supposed to start last September," said Molyneux Tuesday evening.
"We are proud of our members for standing up and fully support their efforts to raise awareness on behalf of all of our teachers," he said.
According to Molyneux. there was no disruption of class or other school activities.
"We need for the administration to at least communicate with us and let us know what is going on," he said. "We want to see some sign of commitment to the contract."
According to Molyneux, 3 to 4 percent pay raises, on a total teacher salary budget of roughly $25 million, were to begin last September, the beginning of the third year of the current teachers’ contract.
Molyneux would not say whether any further protests were currently planned at any other of the territory’s public schools.
